Caroline Furlong

Inspired by both the natural and the man-made worlds, Caroline uses creative materials in their intended and untended forms whilst acting as an art tutor, product demonstrator and general creator of original works.

Caroline runs regular classes in watercolour and in pastels each week in her studio, with the types of pictures taught shown on her website. Her own exhibition work is not normally displayed on her website so as to surprise and excite her followers. Styles change and there is always a strong sense of originality in media application.

Caroline also runs residential courses at Flatford Mill on behalf of The Field Studies Council and day workshops / demonstrations for the East Anglia premier art suppliers Tindalls. Contact these organisations direct to see when Caroline is operating.

Art groups also book Caroline for workshops and demonstrations. Small workshops for a handful of artists to demonstrations to a group of over 50 viewers, Caroline takes them all in her stride.

All of this from a person who started painting at a certain age and never studied at art college. A weekend watercolour course, away at Flatford Mill, once a year for four years was where the art started.

On the fourth visit, she was attending an already paid for course but had recently made been redundant and was feeling rather miserable. The tutor asked what the matter was and having been told the story, the tutor told Caroline she had natural ability and bags of personality – “rent a venue and start teaching”.

One morning class ran each week in the local village hall for a year but by then her partner had also been made redundant. He then spent his redundancy money and gardening leave on finishing an unusual conservatory he was building at home and converted it into a dedicated studio. Now Caroline runs seven classes a week from here and additional specialist workshops for interested students.

Although Caroline has her own studio she really loves painting outdoors the best. With always a small sketch book in her bag and a limited palette of colours, Caroline’s hike boots and waterproofs are in use each week even during rain and snow.
Always an adventure; art and life.
