Chasing the Light with Pastels

Start Date: 08 September 2018
End Date: 09 September 2018
Time: 10:00am - 4:00pm
With: Tony Allain
Cost: £160

Overview:
After a fantastic two day workshop in 2017, Tony has agreed to come back to the Old School Studio again, and treat us to another unique pastel workshop.  So loosen up your pastel paintings using Tony’s very painterly approach and learn to simplify complex scenes into clear shapes, values, and edges.  Then organise these shapes into strong design and colour combinations using bold, expressive marks to get that stunning rich and painterly look.

This workshop is for those willing to go through the door marked ‘leaving your comfort zone’ and enter a world of exciting pastel application!  You will experiment in a variety of ways to introduce a bit of ‘attitude’ into your paintings, and this workshop is specifically designed for those wanting to speed up, and become less tight in their work!

Who should attend?
This is an intermediate work-shop, aimed at individuals who enjoy experimenting with new working methods and bold colours and have an interest in working towards a more abstracted style of painting.  Some previous experience with pastels is useful, but not essential!  Enthusiasm is what counts!

Note: We hope to finish at least 4 pieces per day, and will focus on a specific challenge on each of the 2 days

What to bring:

  • As many soft pastels as you feel comfortable with – colour range is more important than quantity!
